The Flag

A civil war letter from a patriot. An early member of the 12th Regiment, Ohio Volunteers, Elijah Beeman died from a chest and lung wound recieved at the Battle of South Mountain on the eve of the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg), September 22, 1862. He was a nineteen year old farmer when he answered the call to enlist. Elijah died in an Antietam field hospital.

This letter was written from Elijah to his older brother, John Beeman. The flag is a part of this unusual and beautiful stationary. In posession of Joseph M. Waller.
